Recently there have been multiple scams circulating taking advantage of people during these uncertain and worrying times. Here at BMC, we are keeping our customers informed of imminent threats with the most recent being reports of scammers posing as government agencies attempting to obtain your personal information.
Current COVID-19 (coronavirus) scams Scammers are using the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) to take advantage of people across Australia. Scamwatch has received over received over 4160 scam reports mentioning the coronavirus with over $3 360 000 in reported losses since the outbreak of COVID-19 (coronavirus). Common scams include phishing for personal information, online shopping, and superannuation scams. Reports have been received that scammers are pretending to be government agencies providing information on COVID-19 through text messages and emails ‘phishing’ for your information.
